Get ready for the surprise of your life, cowboy is the story in this western bronze sculpture by artist sculptor John Ewing. This former Disney animator / Texas native captures a moment in time between heaven and earth in this classic battle between a cowboy and his bucking horse.

This bronze sculpture measures 11 inches high x 7 x 12. The base, which is made of heart totara wood, is 2 inches thick x 8 x 14. This ZigZag western sculpture with base weighs 17 1/2 pounds and is one of a limited edition of 9 pieces, hand signed and numbered by the artist.

Artist notes: I was reminded of the summer I spent working on a ranch. There came a time when I and a real cowboy named Charlie Kipp were required to bring a herd of horses up to our place from their winter pasturage down lower. There were about 80 of these beautiful brutes, and one supposes they would have behaved themselves if they had known how desperately I wanted to be a good cowboy. But these were hooligans masquerading as horses. Towards Charlie, of course, they exhibited exemplary behaviour. He wouldn't have stood for any mischief and they knew it. But with me, well, let's just say they knew they had a patsy in their sights. They were patient for the first 60 to 70 miles as we came up the valley, biding their time. They knew the terrain better than me, and when we reached the broad and braided ribbons of the Rio Grande River they struck.

The river-bed at this point was a quarter-mile wide, with hillocks and dunes and narrow streams crisscrossing back and forth. As Disneyland to a child, so was this river-bed to these horses. They scattered in all directions as fast as they could go. Their eyes I swear to this their eyes rolled in glee when they saw the look on my face. Charlie was magnificent. He was again, I will swear a living Centaur, and he simply flowed over, around, and through all those humps and brush. Me? I simply hung on the best I could, but in a matter of seconds the horse under me had Zigged seven times when I expected a Zag, and Zagged 14 times when I was prepared for a Zig. He was obviously in cahoots with the other 80 animals, and he can think again if he thinks I will ever forgive him. And if I hear of his funeral I will drop whatever I am doing to attend it.
