Excellent craftsmanship describes this heirloom quality mesquite Texas regulator wall clock, part of our Texas Furniture and Texas Arts and Crafts collections.
Fashioned with authentic 1800's styling from an old family heirloom (over 100 years old and still ticking), this pendulum clock is a Les and Kris Beasley original (Les is a 4th generation Texan himself). A few thoughts from Les on the creation of this clock: Next time you see a mesquite tree on the drive home, just imagine what it would take to build a regulator like this by hand. First, you have to find a big, old, and straight mesquite log (rare) and cut it down. Haul it in (from wherever) and mill it to lumber (into boards), kiln dry it (wood fired usually takes a month to get to 7 percent moisture) and plane it smooth.
Then with love, start the long procedure of epoxy inlay, shaping, cutting and sanding (90 percent done by hand). Finish everything with at least six coats of hand rubbed special oils dried and topped with a carnuba rich paste wax (over 40 hours work on the finish alone). Etch the glass. Design and hand paint the clock dial face. Locate the best quality mechanical movement: one of Seth Thomas' old precision movement manufacturers, Hermle still makes one of the highest quality movements in the world. Lastly, set the mechanical clock movement to beat using the mesquite pendulum stick and brass bob.
These hand made mesquite originals are rich in character and, like all beautiful woods, quite unique.
Note: also available is a special edition Texas Heritage Regulator with historic Texas flags from early battles and uniformed Republic of Texas soldiers wood-burned on the mesquite sides of the clock.
