San Jacinto Battle Flag 1836 Print

This art reproduction of the battle flag featured a standing lady holding an upraised sword with a banner draped over it with the words "liberty or death", showing the fixed determination of those fighting under this most Texan standard.

San Jacinto Flag Facts

The Texas San Jacinto flag was a gift to Captain Sherman and the Newport Kentucky volunteers as they were leaving to help aid the Texas Revolution cause. This Kentucky regiment found General Sam Houston and the Texian Army just prior to engaging the enemy (see our Battle of San Jacinto art print) on April 21, 1836 in the Harris County region. With cries of "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Goliad" and carrying the Sherman San Jacinto battle flag, the Texian force fought and quickly defeated a superior in size but completely surprised Mexican military force. With gracious thanks, this retired flag was returned to the Sherman family in Kentucky to honor then Colonel Sidney Sherman. This same battle flag was gifted to the people of Texas by the Sherman family in a special ceremony at the Texas State Capitol in 1933.
